16th – 20th March
‘Melbourne Design Week (MDW) celebrates design in an annual 11-day program of talks, tours, exhibitions, launches, installations and workshops across Australia’s design capital.
The program champions design through promoting its broad array of disciplines, including: communication design, industrial design, service design, gaming, architecture, interior design, landscape architecture, urban design, fashion, craft and functional art. What also unites these disciplines in MDW is a focus on experimentation, innovation and ideas that enrich the world.’ – Melbourne Design Week
Kil.n.it Artists Showcasing in Melbourne Design Week:
Elizabeth Lewis
Elizabeth Lewis is an artist based on Eora land in Sydney, Australia, and a recent graduate of Fine Arts Hons from UNSW Art + Design. She works with hand-built ceramics, fired many times over for rich colour and differing texture, to create stylised, sugary vessels that engage with transformative symbols. The silhouettes of these forms leave room for ideas of projected floral architecture as if in collaboration with a future owner. An artist in residence at Kil.n.it Experimental Ceramic Studios, she has been a finalist in multiple art prizes and exhibited across Australia and in Milan, Italy.
Bernabeifreeman – Rina Bernabei
The Calyx collection is a collection of vessels and vases made from ceramic and digitally fabricated sheet metal. The new work by Bernabeifreeman is a table-scape exhibition, held in the front window of the Tait Furniture showroom – Fitzroy.
Ebony Russell – Modern Times
Modern Times supports the creative output of many talented Australian artists, designers and makers, and over recent decades it has held exhibitions spanning fine art and object and furniture design. Its championing of emerging Australian design talent has seen Modern Times launch a number of careers and play a role in the production of new contemporary design works.
For the Melbourne Design Fair, Modern Times presents the work of Dean Norton, Zachary Frankel, Nicole Lawrence, James Howe, Studio Henry Wilson, Bettina Willner, Ebony Russell, Kenny Yong-soo Son, Emily Hamann of Ignem Terrae Ceramics, Ash Fischer of FISCHING, Ashley Corbett-Smith of Corbet, and Steven John Clark.
