How much does it cost to fire with Kil.n.it?

Our kilns are available to studio members.

To fire your work:

  1. Become a member (Annual Membership: $120 + Compulsory Studio Orientation $33 for new members)
  2. Book your firing online
  3. Bring your work to the studio latest 11AM on your booked firing date and follow the drop-off instructions

All available firing dates are listed on our online booking calendar. If a date isn’t shown, it isn’t currently available for booking.

The communal firings will only be fired if the kiln is booked at or beyond half capacity.

Yes you can! We have full kilns available on Fridays and some Thursdays. To book a full kiln you need to be a Kil.n.it Member and send an email with your desired date. Further instructions will be sent to you!

Your work will be ready to collect 2 days after the firing from 4:00 pm onwards.

All workshops and kiln firings are booked online and requires a Kil.n.it Membership.

Workshop session:
Simply choose Workshop Hire in the right hand menu bar, select your desired date and time-slot from the booking calendar.  

Firing:

  • Choose Firings in the right hand menu bar
  • Select which temperature you need
  • Select how much space your work requires
  •  Choose the next available date in the booking calendar
Note: if the space you need (e.g 1 shelf) is not available, you can usually find availability earlier by choosing several smaller spaces (e.g 6 gaps).

No. Glazing is only available for members during a booked workshop session.

No. Glazes are included in the workshop hire for our members. 

You must book the workshop to access the glazes. 

If you’re having trouble paying with PayPal, you’re welcome to visit the studio office and pay by credit or debit card using our Square terminal.

Yes, we have our several storage options listed below.

  • Work in Progress
    Our Work In Progress shelves in the workshop is only available for your pieces that your are still working on. 
    You must place your work on a board and label it with your name, phone number and date. Due to the high volume of works made by our members we do not have the facilities to store pieces on the W.I.P shelves for longer than 1 month.
    Once your work is ready to be fired, please book it into the desired temperature online and move it down to the drop-off cage. 
  • Clay Storage
    As a member, you can store clay in our pigeon holes, located outside next to the workshop.
    You must label your clay bag clearly and add your name to the label of the pigeon hole you choose. This ensures that members will find their clay quickly. Only clay is store in the pigeon holes.
  • Lockers (subject to availability)
    If you need to store things like your own tools, glazes, slip, underglazes, reclaim clay etc. Our lockers are for you! 
    They are available for hire at $26.40 per quarter and are paid via invoice. 

Note: Our drop-off and pick-up cages are not a place to store or dry your work. 

Absolutely! If you’re unsure which workshop session, firing, clay, or glaze is right for your project, just get in touch before booking via email, text or phone.

We’re always happy to help and we’re available Monday – Friday 10am – 4pm (excl. Public Holidays)

It depends what time of year it is!

Because our workshop sessions run 24/7 – there is usually great availability! 

As for our communal firings, it’s good to book at least two weeks in advance – depending on the amount of work you’re booking in. If there’s no bookable space and you really need to get something in the kiln, please send us and email and we will try our best to help out.

A workshop session is 4 hours, including cleaning at the end and available 24/7.

We are not able to issue a refund for time not used during a workshop session. 

Only members are allowed on-site and in the workshop due to our insurance policy. If you want to bring a friend, partner or studio assistant, they must also become a member. 

If you have an NDIS support worker please get in touch.

You can reschedule your booking from your membership portal up to 24h before your booking time. 

If something unexpected were to happen on the day of your booking, please get in touch as soon as possible. 

We always do our best to find a solution. However, our bookable services are non-refundable. 

Membership

How do I become a member?

Simply click Become a Member in the right hand menu bar. 
Follow the prompts by first completing the Online Induction and then booking into the Studio Orientation.

We will see you at the orientation and show you how it all works on site, we will also answer any questions you might have.

You do not need to be a ceramic artist or full time pottery to become a member but we do require you to be able to work indipendantly.

Not at all!

Everyone who is confident working independently and have some basic knowledge around ceramics are more than welcome to join our community! 

If you strive for process and not perfection – you will have lots of fun with us! You are free to create what speaks to you and we encourage experimental ceramics, as long as you follow our firing T&C’s.
